To the faithful, the press, and all who have placed their trust in my ministry:
It is with a heavy heart, yet a spirit seeking total truth and clarity, that I address the recent reports and images circulating regarding my private life.
I confirm that during my time away from my official duties in Italy, I formed a deep, personal relationship with Maya. What began as a profound spiritual and intellectual connection grew into a deep affection that crossed the boundaries of my vows.
I do not write this to make excuses or to diminish the gravity of the commitments I undertook before God and the Church. As a human being, I found myself torn between the sacred duty of my calling and a profound earthly love. Maya brought warmth, art, and humanity into a life that had long been lived in quiet isolation.
