Chapter 1: The Sky That Broke
It started with a simple emergency alert on Elena’s phone—a routine weather warning for heavy rainfall that most city residents usually ignored. But this wasn't a normal storm. Within three hours, the sky opened up in a relentless deluge, pouring down millions of gallons of water per minute over the high-rise concrete jungle.
Elena was sitting at her desk in her ground-floor apartment, sipping coffee, when she noticed a strange, deep rumble echoing from outside. Before she could even stand up to check the window, a loud CRACK echoed through the room. The sheer force of the surging flash flood smashed through the glass, sending a violent wave of dark, freezing water roaring into her living room.
Furniture overturned instantly. Her laptop, books, and belongings floated into a chaos of debris. Within seconds, the water reached her chest. Electrical outlets sparked furiously before the entire building went dark. Elena rushed to the front door, but the hydraulic pressure of the rising water outside pinned it shut tight. She was trapped inside her own home as it filled up like an hourglass.
Chapter 2: Into the Abyss
Driven by pure adrenaline, Elena kicked through the sharp, broken edges of her patio window and plunged out into the dark torrent.
The world outside was entirely unrecognizable. The familiar city street had transformed into a violent, churning river. Massive apartment complexes stood like silent gray monoliths rising out of an endless sea. The rain was so thick and intense that it blurred her vision, making it hard to breathe without swallowing water.
Fighting the freezing cold and the crushing current, Elena grabbed onto a thick floating buoy that had washed down from a nearby construction site. Clinging to it with white knuckles, she kicked furiously against the current. The floodwaters were rising rapidly—a foot every few minutes—swallowing parked cars, bus stops, and lower building entrances.
Chapter 3: The Clock Is Ticking
As she floated down the inundated avenue, danger lurked everywhere. Submerged power lines pulsed with residual electricity, and floating cars drifted like dangerous battering rams. Elena saw a family calling for help from a second-story balcony, but the current was too strong; she could only focus on keeping her own head above water.
Her energy was depleting fast. Hypothermia began to set in, making her hands go numb around the orange buoy. Up ahead, she spotted the multi-story concrete parking garage—the only building in the immediate area with an accessible external emergency staircase above the waterline.
