And I can build a meaningful life even when I don’t know exactly what tomorrow will bring.
The photograph of Sophie smiling in her sleep still sits on my desk at work.
Sometimes coworkers stop beside it.
“Oh, she’s beautiful,” they’ll say. “Who does she look like?”
I always smile.
Then I answer,
“She looks like herself.”
Because she does.
And slowly, after months of feeling invisible inside my own marriage, I’m beginning to look like myself again too.
For the first time since becoming a mother, I’m not simply trying to keep everyone
else happy.
I’m choosing the life I want to build.
And this time, I’m the one holding the pen.
